Uploading to Flickr on OSX

Today I helped the girlfriend sign up for a Flickr account and found that all new accounts must use a yahoo id. Thats fine, yahoo bought Flickr, we all knew the yahoo id would become part of the service. Unfortunately, a truly excellent 3rd party flickr uploader for osx hasn’t been updated to use the yahoo system yet, so I went on search for an alternate way to upload.
The Official Route
My first reaction was to download the official Flickr OSX uploader. I had used it previously, and though it didn’t have many of the features the iPhoto plugin sported (picture resizing for one), it got the job done. Of course, with the new yahoo system in place, the old Uploadr will not work for new users so the tools section is sadly empty of an official client.
Flickr does offer an upload form, but only 5 pictures can be uploaded at a time, and resizing must be done beforehand.
PictureSync
I found Picture Sync on the Macintosh group boards at Flickr. It is advertised as working with the new yahoo system. Its shareware with more advanced features for those who are willing to pay the $14 for the full version. It sports a clean interface and works with many photo sites in addition to Flickr. Until the iPhoto plugin is tweaked for the new yahoo accounts, this may be the best bet.
The free version limits uploads to 20 pictures at a time and for those who enjoy the program and wish to use more features and upload more at a time, $14 is a modest price.
Conclusions
PictureSync looks like a good application and if I used other photo services, you can be sure I would spring for the full version. At this point, I’m comfortable with the iPhoto plugin. It has all the features I want and doesn’t have more than that. I’m praying it gets updated soon. Fortunately, it is an open source project, so if anyone has OSX coding experience they may want to give the subversion repository a look see.
